Physical to Virtual machine convertor

Today i will tell you a little introduction about the "Physical to Virtual machine convertor".

This product also called VMWare vCenter Convertor. Its a free product and you can download it from the following link.

http://www.vmware.com/products/converter/

You can convert Microsoft and Linux platforms machines to VMWare virtual machines. Its a simple GUI based product. You just have to give the IP of the machine where you want to make a clone of your physical machine. Select the drives of your physical machine which you want to copy on the virual machines. It depends on the storage available on your SAN or any other storage area.

Go to this link and download the product. It will be an ISO file. Make a CD of the ISO and boot your physical machine using the CD. Then go through the wizard and follow the steps.

Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) importance

Today i will tell you peoples the importance of MTU in the world of Networks and Communication. We all are studying about studying what is MTU and all about its size. In our university life, we all are taught that MTU size is 1500 bytes and some theory related to MTU. But we don't it very serious and just remember the size of MTU.
But when we come to our practical life, there we see the real time experience what role really MTU plays in communication.

Lets me share an example of real environment.
I have two sites. One our HO and what is the remote site. We need to connect the VPN between the branches so that users in the remote branch are able to access the applications and emails. I use Cisco platforms at both ends for VPN connectivity and i successfully establish the VPN connection between the two sites and users are able to use all the applications.

Now if we change the scenario and we use different platforms on both sites. In this scenario, i use Cisco platform at our HO end and Sonicwall firewall at our branch end. On this platform the VPN successfully established but now the problem is users are not able to run their applications at branch end.

After several troubleshootings i finally reached at a point to focus on the MTU size because when we are creating a VPN we have a choice to decide the MTU for the particular interface. But when we are working on cisco platforms, there is no such need to set MTU size as it uses the default size for VPN connection.

But in this scenario we are using Sonicwall firewall and it is not able to set itself with the MTU size as specified on the Cisco router. Therefore we set a value on both devices and finally our branches applications are successfully working.

So after that i came to a point that how much important MTU is for communication between the networks. So make sure to explore MTU in depth especially when working on Multiplatforms technology.

IPSec Tunnel between Cisco and Sonicwall

I tried to create an IPSec Tunnel between our HO and branch. At our HO, we are using Sonicwall NSA3500 and at branch, cisco SOHO 851 router. everything is perfect, the tunnel will be created but we are not able to pass the data between two ends.

At both ends, Authentication parameters are exactly matched. Then we placed on both ends Cisco routers and the tunnel successfully created and communication is ok.

Then at the end, we came to conclusion that the Sonicwall firewall is not clearing its cache because of that the firewall is not able to update its address table.

Now we will restart our firewall and then we will see whether the issue will be resolved or not.

CCIE R&S Written exam

CCIE® Routing & Switching Certification

CCIE R&S certifies the expert-level skills required to plan, prepare, operate, monitor and troubleshoot complex converged networks. Professionals who achieve CCIE have demonstrated their technical skills at the highest level.

Candidates are expected to have in-depth understanding of the topics on the blueprint and strongly encouraged to have at least three to five years of job experience before attempting certification.

Partners: Log in for Partner Education Connection (PEC) Learning Map

Exams & Recommended Training

Cisco provides a flexible and integrated learning program using instructor-led and self-paced training, hands-on exercises, assessments, and practice exams to build the expert skills required for CCIE certification. The Cisco 360 Learning Program for CCIE R&S is available from specially trained and authorized learning partners. Other individual Cisco training courses can fill in gaps in a candidate’s experience or knowledge.

Recertification
CCIE certifications are valid for two years and must be recertified every two years thereafter.

To recertify, pass ONE of the following before the certification expiration date:

  • Pass any current CCIE Written Exam OR CCIE Lab Exam or
  • Pass the current CCDE Written Exam OR current CCDE Practical Exam, or
  • Pass the Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr) interview AND the CCAr board review to extend lower certifications.

CCIEs that do not pass a qualifying exam before the recertification deadline will be placed in suspended status and their employers will be notified. Suspended CCIEs have one year to pass the required exam before their CCIE certification becomes permanently inactive. Inactive CCIEs lose all
benefits and must pass both the written and lab exams again.

Achieving or recertifying CCIE or CCDE automatically extends your active Associate, Professional or other Expert level certification(s) up to the
expiration date of the last certification achieved. For more information, access the CCIE Recertification page on Cisco.com.
